Psalm 31 was written at a time in David’s life when he really needed God’s help. In verse 5 David writes his heartfelt feelings: “Into thine hand I commit my spirit“. Now, when you can pray a prayer like that you have ceased fighting against God. When you can totally surrender and put your spiritual connection to God in His hands, you have reached the point of true worship.

Jesus came to that place in His own life. Its recorded in Luke 24:46: “And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, ‘Father, into Thy hands I commend my spirit:’ and having said thus, he gave up the ghost“. What David prayed was really a prophetic prayer that his descendant, Jesus, would pray in His final act of worship.

Real worship is when you surrender your life to God, no matter what.
