WRONG DATE

   Posted by: pastordiehl    in Uncategorized

Another wedding I performed also had a bit of a glitch with the Marriage License. After the wedding, as I was having the bride and groom sign the license, I noticed that it had the wrong date on it. I pointed this out to the happily married couple, and the bride panicked.

“Its no good,” she cried, “We’ll have to do it over again.”. I assured her that the marriage was legal, we simply had to correct the date of the wedding when we submitted the Marriage License back to the courthouse, which was my responsibility.

Mary Magdalene had the same worried look on her face the first Easter morning. She had the spices for Jesus’ burial, but she asked the question, “Who shall roll the stone away?” She saw a problem in her head that was not really a problem. The angel of the Lord had already moved the stone.

As she served, God prepared the way. I believe we can expect the Lord to do the same with us. Let’s get busy serving God.

PRAYER WORRIER

   Posted by: pastordiehl    in Uncategorized

In his book Growing Your Soul, Neil Wiseman writes, “Prayer must be more than a kind of restatement of fretting worries or a milling over of problems. Our petitions must move beyond gloomy desperation, which deals mostly with calamity and despair.”

In commenting on this, Joanie Yoder added, “During an anxious time in my life, I became a “Prayer Worrier.” I would beg, “Lord, please keep my neighbor from causing me problems tomorrow.” Or, “Father, don’t let that ornery person spread gossip about me.

“But then the Lord taught me to pray for people, rather than against them. I began to say, “Lord, bless and encourage my neighbor, and help him to sense your love.” Then I watched to see what God would do. The Lord’s amazing answers not only helped others but also helped to cure my own anxiety!

Paul said, “God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think” (Ephesians 3:20).

SWITCHBACKS

   Posted by: pastordiehl    in Uncategorized

While on our Arizona vacation last month Anita and I rented a car. We were driving from the Phoenix area up to Sedona, the Red Rock area. As we drove, we could see the high mountainous area ahead of us. It seemed like such a steep grade that we would never get up there. But, as we progressed the winding road, around curves and switchbacks, we soon found ourselves on the other side heading down.

The twists and turns of life are like that. They move us slowly onward, so slow we don’t always recognize that we’re moving onward. But, surely enough, we eventually arrive at life’s destination. To worry about the obstacles up ahead is purposeless. If God has pointed us onward, He will surely take care of the way.

Jesus said, “Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things” (Matthew 6:34). Think about this today.

PROFESSIONAL WORRIER

   Posted by: pastordiehl    in Uncategorized

Do you have a problem with worry? Many fret and stew about many things.

Tom had been a compulsive worrier for years until he found a way to overcome this problem. His friends noticed the dramatic change. “What happened?” asked Doug. “You don’t seem to be worried about anything anymore.”

“I hired a professional worrier for $1,000 a week,” Tom replied. “I haven’t had a single qualm since.”

“A thousand a week!” said Doug. “How’re you going to pay him?”

“That’s his problem,” was his answer.

You can’t pay someone to worry for you. But Jesus paid the price so we wouldn’t have to worry. The opposite of worry is trust. Let’s trust Him to be in control of our lives and everything that comes into our lives. The result will be peace that passes all understanding.
