I attended the Super Senior luncheon this week. I happened to sit at the seat that won the doorprize, which was the French Lavender plant that decorated our table. I’m not much of a plant guy, but it looked nice and I knew Anita (who could not be there) would enjoy it. So I took this nice plant out to the car when I took my mother and mother-in-law back home. When I returned to the church, I forgot to crack the car windows.
When I went out to go home after work, I noticed the plant was pretty well cooked. It was seriously wilted and the potting soil dry as a bone. I added some water as soon as I got home and presented it to my wife as an expression of my love. She took a look at it and was not impressed!
We went out to eat with friends that night, and by the time we got home it was looking great again. Its amazing how quickly a plant can be refreshed. And its also amazing how quickly our spirits can be refreshed when we have a fresh experience with God. The dryer things become, the more we should seek after His thirst quenching presence. Get refreshed.

A young Catholic girl was dating a boy who was not the least bit interested in church. Her mother was very alarmed so she demanded that her daughter do everything possible to win the fellow over to the faith.
After the first date, the mom said, “How did it go?”
“Very well,” said the daughter. “I persuaded him to go to mass all next month.”
After the next date the mother persisted, “How is it going?” The daughter said, “Better, I convinced him to join the catechism class.”
Several days later and the mother knew that wedding bells were about to ring. But she insisted that the young man first join the church and be baptized. To her surprise he consented.
Then the day of the wedding arrived and the daughter rushed out of the bridal room in tears. The mother said, “Dear, what’s the matter?” She replied, “I think we oversold him on the church. He decided to become a priest!”
What do you think, is it possible to take one’s faith too far?

Today is Valentine’s Day and I hope you haven’t forgotten. The story of how couples first met is always interesting. Anita and I first met at a prayer meeting at a home in Butler. We were both brand new believers and on fire for God. She arrived after me with two other young gals and began to tell of a near accident they had on the way there. As she was retelling the dramatic story her emotions came through and she began to bawl. Immediately I grabbed my handkerchief and gave it to her. The knight in shining armor rescuing the damsel in distress! She blew snot all over it! And then she refused it give it back until she had laundered it. In retrospect, I think that was her conniving strategy to see me again all along.
Of course, she tells a different version of the story. How did you first meet your sweetheart?
