DO SOMETHING
Yesterday I attempted to define a revival. Back in 1972 there were a group of ordinary people who encountered the Holy Spirit. They wanted to do something with the passion inside them. They were United Methodists, United Brethren, Roman Catholics, and Church of Christ people. The first meeting was held at the home of Dale and Dana Smith to strategize an outreach to DeKalb County. I was invited because everyone felt I could speak to the teenagers. The group decided to hold a Vacation Bible School at the Trailer Court in Waterloo.
They rented a tent, put up a small trailer behind it for the teenagers, and invited Evangelist Gilbert Dilley to preach. I think Pastor Dennis Kutzner preached another night. It went all week and I taught the teenagers. I didn’t have a clue what I was doing, but I did something. I don’t think any of us knew what we were doing, but we did something. Our obedience that week brought about an awakening in the county that led to New Hope Christian Center years later. And the fire in my soul cannot be extinguished.
I could write a book on the early steps that led to where we are now, but this was the first step for me. I want to believe in people like those older folks believed in me. And we don’t have to be experts, we just need to do something. That’s when God shows up.
