A DOG’S EARS
“He that passes by, and meddles with strife belonging not to him, is like one that takes a dog by the ears” (Proverbs 26:17).
Ever grabbed a dog by the ears? Its like grabbing a cat by the tail: they don’t like it. A dog’s ears are sensitive. They’ll put up with a lot of rough play, but leave their ears alone. A dog will defend his/her comfort zone if you mess with that area.
And so it is with a Good Samaritan that willingly gets entangled in an emotional dispute between two others. The obvious solution may seem simple to us, but the emotions may be really heated up with this strife. Get in the middle with your rational mind and you could get the same result as the guy who grabbed the dog by the ears: OUCH!
I’ve experienced that in marriage counseling and got bit.
