CANCER-FREE

Posted by: pastordiehl   in Casting Out Cancer

Its now been four months since my prostate surgery. I went in to see my Urologist and he said I was doing fine. The real indicator of how successful they were with the cancer is in the PSA test, however. Cancer is the most likely culprit for an elevated PSA level, which is under 4.0 in a healthy male. After six years of tests and biopsies, my PSA level was up to nearly 12.0 when they finally found the cancer.

When the PSA follow-up test came back last week it was at .04, or what they call undetectable. I’m sure it will be zero by the next time they test it. So I am cancer-free and a cancer survivor! Although there is still some nerve trauma from the surgery to recover from, it is getting better every day.

I am reminded of the awesome promise God gave to the Israelites in Exodus 15:26: “I am the Lord that heals thee.”

The great amount of respect I had for you grew even more as you opened up and allowed myself and others the chance to walk along with you through this journey. I believe that one of the great purposes of the Body is that we be there for each other, and we just can’t do what we are supposed to do if we all mask and hide from each other. Thank you for the courage to be vulnerable; God had many things to teach you, and because you were willing to share, He was able to help others through you. I’m thankful that you are healthy and that I can point to this circumstance as proof that the Lord answers prayer!

My Aunt Sue Smith gave me your blog address and I just read through your whole prostate cancer journey. My husband, Eric was just diagnosed with prostate cancer and we can relate to everything you said. I cried, laughed and felt much better after reading your experience. Thank you so much for doing this journal so we can see what Eric’s journey could be like. He is having the same surgery with the same doctor. I just hope he doesn’t have the same catheter problem. Again thank you for sharing all of your emotions, experiences and humor through all the terrifying trip with cancer. God surely is shining through you Pastor Diehl!!
