THE MAN WHO CHANGED

Posted by: pastordiehl   in Change and You

I forgot the guy’s name who said, “Never trust anyone over 30!” A couple of years later he turned 30 and we haven’t heard anything from him since. William James, famous professor of philosophy and psychology at Harvard University, once stated that after 30 we become set like plaster and never change. But that has been proven incorrect.

John D. Rockefeller had become the world’s only billionaire. But he was a miserable man who couldn’t sleep, had no one who loved him, and who needed bodyguards for his safety.

Then at age 53 he was stricken with a rare disease. He lost all his hair, and his body became thin and shrunken. He was given a year or so to live.

Faced with the reality of death, Rockefeller started thinking about eternal issues, and suddenly began to change. He gave away his money to help churches and the poor. He established the Rockefeller Foundation, which has underwritten critical health research. Today, we don’t remember him for his wealth, we remember him for his generosity.

His health improved, and contrary to the doctor’s prediction, he lived to be 98. Don’t tell me people can’t change.

Often change happens because of something affecting us from outside ourselves, something we may have no control over. Or something that we thoguht we had no control over but because we take action that is positive it may affect our soul and, in the end, changes our life.

I too believe change happens because of things that affects us. If we are not so into ourselves and have not turned a deaf ear to God’s voice we can make positive changes in our lives. Quite a few years ago my life was in a shambles. Seemed no matter how hard i tried to make my life happy and good something bad happened to pull me down. I was doing dishes one day and crying buckets of tears. I said the Devil is doing it to me again. I heard a voice and it sounded loud to me. The voice said “the devil did not do this to you, you did this with you choices”. That shook me and shook me hard. Now i had no one, not even Satan to blame for my life the way it was. I talked to a christian friend who said not to geive Satan the glory for my short comings. It made sence. God was trying to get through to me and had a hard time with this bullhead. I too was struck with illness and was really sick spiritually also. Finally with the help of dear christian friends i could see past me and reach out to God. and He gets all the glory. He loved me through it all.
