The following letter to the Editor was published in the Focus on the Family Magazine for August 1994:

“Thank you for your recent radio program, “Hope for the Homosexual” which aired in April. I am a former lesbian. After many years in the gay community, I joined a Christian women’s Bible study, where I met happy, healthy, normal Christian women who treated me with respect. I’d never had my emotional needs met before. My mother had rejected me and the lesbian community was always looking for “lovers.” Being around real Christians was the most healing experience I’ve had. I haven’t listened to Focus on the Family broadcasts regularly, but after today, I intend to never miss it again!

What an example of Christians acting out their Christian love toward an unlovely person. But that mutual respect earned her attention. Let’s be careful not to let our personal prejudices contaminate the Lord’s love for the lost.

What is your take on the above story?

Dr. Martin MacIntyre, a dentist from Potomac, Maryland, refused to allow his daughter Sarah to go to the pool for the third time in one day…He just said no and that was that.

So that evening Sarah – age 6 – wrote a note in red pencil and left it on her daddy’s pillow.

It said: Daddy – I hate you.

And it was signed, Love – Sarah.

Can you use those two terms (Love and Hate) in the same sentence?

“On the third day of Christmas my True Love sent to me: Three French Hens”.

The three French Hens represent the Theological Virtues: Faith, Hope, and Charity (agape = love). These three key virtues are referred to often in the New Testament. They summarize all the other Christian virtues in a nutshell. Faith is trusting in the omniscience (all knowing) of God. It is resting in Him because we are assured in our hearts that He has a great plan for us.

Hope, however, is not passive trust. It is aggressive in desiring something. Some confuse faith, which is passive by nature, and hope, which is aggressive and takes action. But both have to do with belief. The Hebrew writer said that faith is the substance of things hoped for.

Charity is a better word than love because ‘Agape’ requires action, not feelings. ‘Agape’ actually kicks into gear when feelings are absent or negative.

Our True Love, God gave us these three gifts. PTL!

Former Portland, Oregon, Pastor Dale Galloway, tells this story that occurred at his church a few years ago:

On a cold, windy morning with the wind chill factor well below zero, the orphan boy, Ralph, walked to church. His friend, Mr. Kennedy, greeted him as he came in the door, “Glad to see you, Ralph. Sure is cold out there today.”

With a smile Ralph said, “I sure did get cold walking this morning.” Surprised, the older man inquired, “You mean you walked here to church this morning?”

Ralph replied, “Yep, I didn’t have money for bus fare.”

“Well, how far did you walk, Ralph?”

“I walked four miles.”

Mr. Kennedy asked Ralph, “How many churches did you pass along the way walking four miles?” Ralph thought for a moment. “I passed twenty-two churches.”

Impressed, Mr. Kennedy said, “Ralph, why did you pass all those churches just to come to our church on this cold morning?”

Ralph smiled widely and said, “Because I’ve discovered that here they love a fella like me.”

Let’s work together to make a few more people feel that way.
