ORAL ROBERTS

   Posted by: pastordiehl   in Uncategorized

The news today reports the passing of one of God’s great warriors: Oral Roberts. Oral Roberts was an amazing example of an ordinary man being used extraordinarily by God. He was 91.

  • Did you know that Oral Roberts was an American Indian from Oklahoma?
  • Did you know that he had a wayward son who died of a drug overdose?
  • Did you know that this great healing evangelist was actually a United Methodist?
  • Did you know that he experienced a miraculous healing in his body as a child?
  • Did you know that he had a daughter who was killed in a plane crash on a missions trip?
  • Did you know he was one of the few great tent evangelists of the 1950′s that escaped scandal?
  • Did you know Oral Roberts survived an assassination attempt during one of his tent revivals, but kept going despite his fear?

What will you remember about Oral Roberts?

Without revealing too much about my age….what I will remember about him is what I WON’T remember. I grew up in a time of powerful, powerful evangelists falling to the wayside, giving into their temptations. Anyone can name at least two or three evangelists with a list of scandals that plagued them in later years. I can’t think of any one scandal that followed Oral Roberts. We have a tendency to remember another’s trials, especially those being lived out in the public eye.
Oral Roberts’ LACK of scandal speaks to his dedication to his purpose.

Without revealing too much about my age….what I will remember about him is that my dear maternal Grandmother received a healing touch from him. In my hymn book collection, I have Gramma’s official song book of Oral Roberts’ healing campaings that was used in his tent revivals (attended by thousands). The song book sold for a quarter! It is filled with songs of deliverance, I assure you. Best of all, it has some of my Gramma’s and my Mama Rose’s handwriting on it. I really treasure this simple little book and I have used in many times throughout the years.

I once heard him say that he didn’t heal people, God did. He had a lot of power and influence but from all that I have heard and read he always gave the glory to God. I have seen many recordings of his preaching and it was powerful and anointed, not just a talented man with great speaking ability. Yesterday in a memorial they were saying that he laid his hands on an estimated 2 million people during his ministy. I agree with the previous statement as well, it is possible to serve God faithfully for a long time without scandal or a great public fall. Though we are human and make mistakes, this should be our goal! Oral Roberts was a great example of living completely sold out for Jesus.

yes to pretty much all of the statements as this was a great man of faith, with a gifted son and daughter in-law, who continue to spread Gods good message of seed time and harvest and the gifts of healings passed down from his father. Someone once asked him why he was with the Methodists to which he said where there is a move of God I will be there!. I had two wonderful friends from my area in Batesville who actually worked as attendants and served Oral during his Tent Revivals, and they told me it was very moving, just to be a part of it! Kenneth Copeland, considered by many the Father of the modern faith movement, started as a pilot for Oral and recently diceased Billy Joe Daugherty was also involved with Oral, as well as his long time neighbor, Benny Hinn, who would spend countless hours just hanging out with Oral and learning more and more. Many people recieve a call from God in the oddest places, for Oral it was the backseat of his dads car at the tender age of 17, as the Lord spoke to him informing him of this vast ministry ahead. Like David he bided his time until it all came forth. God Bless you pastor Diehl for keeping us all informed on such a deep passing as this instills in my heart that we keep the torch he is passing on lit up for generations to come. All in love Kerry D.

What i will remember is that at six or seven years old, i attended a healing campaign with my mother because i had asthma and Bronchitis really bad, i was lucky enough to get one of the tickets to go on stage and gave it away to someone i thought needed it more (Mom was really disappointed) but we stayed in the crowd and sat and watched the service. During which, the Lord touched my and healed my Asthma and Bronchitis. I thank God that he chose Oral Roberts and put him where i needed him on that day.
