ANOTHER OLD HYMN

   Posted by: pastordiehl   in The Church's One Foundation

It is true that the newer songs tend to be more relational and the ancient hymns were more doctrinal in nature. But I want to draw our attention this week to the content of one of my favorite hymns, The Church’s One Foundation. Listen to verse 1:

The Church’s one foundation is Jesus Christ her Lord;
She is His new creation, by water and the word;
From heav’n He came and sought her to be His holy bride;
With His own blood He bought her, And for her life He died.

This old hymn, written by Samuel J. Stone and Samuel S. Wesley, speaks volumes to a lost world. The church of Jesus Christ is built upon Him as its very foundation. The church is His new creation. Christ came from heaven to seek her out as His holy bride. When He found her, He bought with His own shed blood. So that we sinners could live, He died. What an eternal message.
