VETERAN’S DAY

   Posted by: pastordiehl   in Uncategorized

Today is Veteran’s Day in America. Earlier I asked three surviving World War 2 veterans if they would allow me to interview them on their experiences in the war on a special Sunday night service. They declined. One said that was so long ago he can’t even remember. Another said that he didn’t want to talk about it because there were so many bad memories. So I dropped the idea.

But I haven’t dropped the idea of honoring our veterans for their service. When young men go into harm’s way, it is to defend this nation and the ideals it stands for. Today we question the wisdom of the military conflicts in Korea and Vietnam. What we didn’t like about those conflicts was due to the politics and leaders at the time. But let’s not desparage the brave men and women who risked their lives for their country’s sake.

If you know a veteran who served his/her country well, go out of your way to say thank you today. Its the least you can do.
