HAPPY ANNIVERSARY

   Posted by: pastordiehl   in Uncategorized

Today Anita and I are celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary! There won’t be a lot of fanfare, though. Alan Roth is coming to begin laying carpet in our basement today, so I need to be around to move furniture, etc. We’re still spending money for materials in our basement project, so that is our anniversary gift to each other. We are going out to eat with Al & Jo Fair tonight in Ft. Wayne, so that will be our celebration.

Thirty-five years is a long time. When we got married things were a lot different than they are today. First, we were a lot younger then. Also, we were a lot dumber than we are now. We made a lot of marriage mistakes in those early days. We got off on the wrong foot in a lot of ways. But those struggles helped to make us what we are today. We are able to help other young couples in their difficulties because we can identify with what they struggle with. And we have solid answers because we also walked down that path.

We learned (are learning?) the hard way that it is the Lord’s desire that “each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband” (Ephesians 5:33).

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY !!!! I am one sho can relate to mistakes made in marriage. For one thing is you dont really have God in your life the mistakes you made will destroy the relationship which it did for me more than once. My childrens dad and i have been divorced for 36 years. We are now closer that we ever were. We both really have God in our lives now though. We even talk of being together again. I have put it in Gods hands to show us what to do. When i think of all the wasted 36 years it makes me sad. If only we would have had God in our lives then. But we do now and we will see what the future will bring while staying close to Jesus.

Happy Anniversary! We all really need good, strong marriages modeled for us so we know it can be done today! It seems like I am constantly hearing of another couple I know getting divorced. It makes me sad to see how our culture is consistently offering the idea that when something gets hard it’s OK to give up and move on. Making marriage work is hard but worth it, thanks to you and Anita for being an example! I also have to thank my parents and grandparents for doing the same!
