MRS. CRAIG

   Posted by: pastordiehl   in Uncategorized

In the early 1990s The Nashville Banner reported that 81-year old Ella Craig had perfect attendance in Sunday school for 20 years. That’s 1,040 Sundays! The article then raised these questions:

1. Doesn’t Mrs. Craig ever have company on Sunday to keep her away from church?

2. Doesn’t she ever have headaches, colds, nervous spells, or tired feelings?

3. Doesn’t she ever take a weekend trip?

4. Doesn’t she ever sleep late on Sunday morning?

5. Doesn’t it ever rain or snow on Sunday morning?

6. Doesn’t she ever get her feelings hurt by someone in the church?

The article consluded by asking, “What’s the matter with Mrs. Craig?” What do you think is the matter with Mrs. Craig?

I’m probably going to be the only person that ends up being a “downer” here, but I’m really not that impressed with Mrs. Craig. What does perfect attendance in the church building have to do with being a Christ-follower?

I think the biggest “problem” Mrs. Craig may have is that she LEAKS. She comes to church every Sunday, gets filled up with love and knowlege of her Lord. She then goes out into the world and leaks it all over. Then she has to go back the following Sunday to fill up again! We should all be blessed to be so leaky!

I am blessed to have around 25 problems on Sunday morning like Mrs. Craig. They get out of bed on Sundays at 7:00 so they can come to Bible Study at 8:00 before Church starts. I see the servant hearts and the way they serve not only in the Church but outside the walls to bless our community. Tara is right, we can put on a mask to impress but constant dedication takes the possibility away that the Mrs. Craigs in our churches are unreal, the very thing that people are seeking today and that is someone real that they can count in in a crisis. Lord help us to be really dedicated to YOUR cause and not ours!!
