CHANGE IS GOOD

Posted by: pastordiehl   in Change and You

We have a light over the kitchen sink that has a lens cover that keeps falling off. Anita tried plastic tak and duct tape, but it kept falling off. She finally told me it was the man’s responsibility to fix broken things, so I took a look. The starter is going out that buzzed and set off vibrations that caused the lens cover to come loose. Thinking that the change would be easy, I tried to replace the starter but couldn’t get it out. So I got my tools out and took the light assembly apart to get a better grip. No matter what I did, I couldn’t get that starter out, so I had to run to Home Depot and get a new light fixture. Of course, nothing matched from the old fixture so it took twice as long to drill new holes, etc.

Change is never easy. It always takes more work and costs more money than just keeping things the same. But today Anita has a light that doesn’t buzz or have a light cover that falls off into her dishwater. It was worth it in the end. Change was good, because if Mama ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy!

Do you have to change something today? Change is good.

One day this week I went to take my kids to school and my car wouldn’t start-seemed like a battery problem, so I called my mom, we got everyone where they needed to be, then went to jump the car. My sister came because she had more time so we tried to jump it but nothing worked. Ended up putting the car on the battery charger and spending the day checking it, with no change. Finally my dad got off work so he could come help me-he took the battery out, took it to Auto Zone to be tested, and found out it was dead-had to buy a new battery, and he did this for me without asking for anything. I spent the day getting rides for myself, my kids, and absolutely nothing that I had planned for the day done. Every time this happens to me I usually freak out and get all mad about my plans being changed. I usually have a talk with God that involves me questioning him as to why he would want to keep me from accomplishing any of the things I had planned for the day. I did a little better this time-of course I don’t know why he allowed this to happen, but I survived and found that just like always my family came through for me (something to be thankful for), what I thought was urgent really wasn’t (this is how it usually is) and at the end of the day I was OK (also the norm). So I guess I should expect these types of changes in my “PLANS” until I have finally learned how to deal with it right, every time.
