MISTAKES IN THE BIBLE

   Posted by: pastordiehl   in Uncategorized

Can there be a mistake in the Bible? History records quite a mistake in an eighteenth century printing of the scripture. The command in the Gospel of John to sin no more had been printed as “sin on more.” This simple one-letter reversal obviously changed the entire meaning of the text and subsequently had to be revised and the wrongly worded Bibles pulled off the market.

In 1712 an Oxford edition of the Bible printed a chapter heading in the Gospel of Luke referring to a vineyard gardener as, “The Parable of the Vinegar.” And a gender mix-up in a 1923 version produced, “A man may not marry his grandmother’s wife.” These blunders make it appear that the Bible cannot be trusted. But I think its printers who cannot be trusted. God has never made a mistake.

What arguments have you recently heard about why the Bible is untrustworthy?

I work with a single father at Raytheon who is so down on anything to do with Christianity because he sees his brother and mother proclaiming their faith, but living lives totally different than what they profess. We have talked on several occasions, and on one particular occasion, he mentioned to me about all of those Old Testament “fake” stories. I asked him what he was talking about, and he mentioned Noah’s ark, and Jonah as examples. I went on to tell him about the miracles God has done in my life, and why I believe they are true stories, and not fake ones. I know I talked a long time, and I was surprised that he never interrupted me. I’ve invited him to church several times, but he has yet to come. I really believe that God is working on him.

A very dear brother within our church has some problems, as many do, with the concept of creation. I make certain he hears lots of songs like “How Great Thou Art”. Please pray for very clear revelation for our brother.

I have some great resources for those who doubt the veracity of Old Testament events, i.e. Creation, the Flood, etc.

Here’s a link to a post with links to some great resources:
