CURRIER’S PLIGHT

   Posted by: pastordiehl   in Uncategorized

In his book The No-Guilt Guide for Witnessing, George Sweeting tells of a man named John Currier who in 1949 was found guilty of murder and sentenced to life in prison. Later he was transferred and paroled to work on a farm near Nashville, Tennessee.

In 1968, Currier’s sentence was terminated, and a letter carrying the good news was sent to him. But the owner of the farm never delivered the letter nor informed John of his release. Life on that farm was hard and without promise, yet John kept doing what he was told even after the farmer for whom he had worked had died.

After another ten years, a state parole officer learned about Currier’s plight, found him, and told him that his sentence had been terminated. He was a free man.

Where would your life be today if no one had delivered the message that your Sin had been forgiven? That important message needed to be delivered. And it still needs to be delivered to so many. Let’s keep our eyes open for the God-appointed opportunities.

Pastor, I hate to think where my life would be today had that message not been delivered. I think it would be safe to say that I wouldn’t be a part of a fantastic church in a small town named Waterloo. I wouldn’t know one of the best Pastors I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. There would be several fantastic, thought provoking and enlightning messages missed. Most important…I wouldn’t know that the price for my sins have been paid in full. Praise God for who He is and what He did for all of us. We have to spread the good news of Jesus Christ. I have to spread the good news. My hesitation in doing this could be the difference in someone knowing Jesus and not. Do I want to be the one that kept someone from getting to know Jesus? I have work to do. Jesus, help me be a better witness. Amen and Amen.

I believe with all my heart that one of the most important things we ever do is to share His love. He has shown me such mercy. I am compelled to show others. And the neatest thing is that He gives me opportunities to encourage others every single day!
