PETS IN HEAVEN?

Posted by: pastordiehl   in Casting Out Cancer

I feel a little helpless today. I’m not supposed to lift anything heavier than a gallon of milk, yet our 13-year old Chocolate Lab, Allie, has been sick for a couple of days, and we had to get her to the vet this morning. Anita had to do most of the lifting, because Allie probably weighs 50 lbs. He diagnosed her with a serious infection and we had him keep her there for treatment with an IV. Shortly, he called to say she went into shock and died. Neither of us could lift her, and I knew I shouldn’t be digging a hole, so we called our boys.

They both took some time off work to help us out, digging the hole, picking her up from the Vet’s, and burying her. I really appreciate their help. We’ve raised Allie since she was a pup. Although she was part chicken, she always let us know when company was near. And, after the kids all flew the coup, she was great company for Anita. We’ll miss her.

There is nothing in the Bible about animals going to heaven. But, we know that there are horses in heaven. Heaven is a place for the redeemed of the Lord, and animals don’t need a Savior, because they never violated God’s laws (Sin) in the first place. What do you think? Will our pets be in heaven?

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Pets can certainly become family members so the death of a pet is an adjustment. I’m not sure if there will be pets in heaven, but sometimes, pets can be heaven on earth!!!

Have a safe and fun trip to TN! We’re looking forward to seeing you back in the pulpit but don’t rush things!

Sorry to hear of your loss. My old dog is buried under the lilac tree out back he died in my arms. Dont know if he will come wagging his tail when i get to heaven or not. I know of a lady who had five dogs. four of them have died and she has one old dog left she has had each one cremated and has left directions they are to be put in her casket with her. Dont know about that one either. Have a great trip.

I certainly hope that there are pets in heaven. I have informed my dog that she has to outlive me. I agree with Dennis Holman, pets can be heaven on earth. Actually, my dog doesn’t know that she is a dog let alone a pet :)

Take care Pastor and have fun with those grand children…oh, and the rest of the family.

Dogs just become part of the family! I would hope that they would go to heaven but I have a feeling we will be too busy to even think about them there!

I am so so sorry to hear about Allie. I lost my 14-year old cat Cuddles two years ago and It broke my heart. He had kidney failure and had to be put down. He suffered so much and even to the end, he was always by my side. I love him and I KNOW he is in heaven waiting for me. I will be reuined with the ones I love people and pets!! I don’t think we will be too busy to love the ones we loved down here. We are never to busy to love.

I cried too when I read about Allie because I know how much it hurts to loose a family member. Somewhere in the bible I know there is a story of the mule talking to his owner and I believe someday we will be able to talk to our pets. A friend of mine believes we are not able to talk to the animals because that is part of the curse of man.

I’m so sorry that Allie died. She was a beautiful dog. Though, I’m not sure she ever liked me. She would always bark at me and nip at my heels. But Anita always assured me that she was harmless. :o )

Our big furry dog Penelope of 15 years died just before we moved from Arkansas to Washington. Instead of burying her in the inner city, we had her cremated. Then when we took a trip home, we spread the ashes over a lake in Indiana where we used to take Penelope to swim. It brought us a lot of peace as Carrie and I held hands and thanked God for that big, always shedding, always slobbery dog, and for the time God gave us to care for her.

So sorry to hear of your loss. I’m partial to labs, as you know of our chocolate. It makes me sad when I think of losing Widgeon someday. Anna and Widgeon are 2 mo. apart in age, so they’ve been together since babyhood. She really loves that dog! Labs are awesome with kids. Anna would crawl on top of her, pull at her face and ears, drool on her and she didn’t care. She’d just lay there and “take it”! I like to think God has a special place for our pets. I don’t know, obviously. Just makes me feel better to think He does.

Pastor & Anita,
I am sorry to hear of the loss of your beloved family pet. This entry hit close to home for me. Our family dog “Sunshine” (1/2 lab & 1/2 bassett hound…I always said she was a miniature lab) had to be put to sleep last Christmas Eve day. She was almost 15 years old! We actually brought her home from Florida (hence her name) when she was just a pup and a week later found out I was pregnant for Emily. So, Emily & Evan both grew up with our beloved dog. Anyway, Evan has asked me and his dad many times if he will see Sunshine in heaven when he gets there. I truly do hope so and I know my kids do too =) God Bless you and your family!
