THE POINT

Posted by: pastordiehl   in Casting Out Cancer

Today is my best day yet. I actually feel pretty normal, except for the constant aggravation of this catheter. I go in Monday to have that removed, Praise God! I took a pretty good walk outside today, and that irritated things a bit. I have to remember Paul Brewer’s admonition to not push things too soon, as its only been five days since the surgery.

I’ve started reading Andy Stanley’s book Creating Community: 5 keys to Building A Small Group Culture. He tells the story of when they planted their church, North Point Community Church, in a suburb of Atlanta, they met in a conference center at the intersection of two interstate highways. The conference center had a huge electronic sign visible to both highways, where they advertised whichever group was meeting there that day. There weren’t enough spaces to get the entire name of the church on one screen, so the technician had to abbreviate. Everyone was surprised when they arrived for church and read the words: ‘NO POINT CHURCH’ on the screen for all to see. Which raises the question: What is the point of the church? What is the point of our church, New Hope Christian Center? This is a question that begs an answer.

What do you think? What is the point?

Easy question….To make Disciples who make Disicples, and I’m very happy to be one. It’s all about the Lord.

We’re thanking God that things are going well with you guys…you’ve been in our prayers often. New Hope is “home” to us…a sanctuary in this mixed up world. It is a place to be fed, loved, encouraged and gives us the strength to go and do likewise!

For me New Hope is a haven. A sane place in a crazy world. A place to go to not just to relax and feel the presence of God but to learn how to help others recognize His presence in their life. A place to call home. A warm, loving, beautiful place to be.

To me New Hope is a place healing and hope. A place where anyone can come and feel at ease no matter if they have nice clothes to wear or not. A place of learning A place where the Pastor says it like it is. A place full of good people full of God’s love ready to reach out and help.

I find that church meets many area’s for me. It gives me a place to practice my purpose. It challenges me to be a better person and to reach out to my community as a Christian who loves them. It also feeds and encourages me when I’m afraid, weak and depressed. I feel supported and encouraged so that I can give back where God wants me to.

New Hope if family for me. My biological brothers and sisters aren’t saved so getting together with them is more of an obligation than it is a desire. I long to be with my New Hope family. I feel loved and that the body actually cares about me….for me. The body only knows to do that because it is exemplified from top down. Thanks Pastor and Anita for loving the body.

As our dear friend Dr. Gary Swanson once said, New Hope should be a hospital for the hurting, not a hotel for the perfect. I love that because it reminds us that we all have the “ache” Pastor Ed Gungor talked about this weekend.
